Semitrex Addresses Global Energy Crisis with Game-Changing Technology for More Efficient Power Consumption

LAGUNA BEACH, Calif., February 24, 2015 – It’s simple supply and demand: According to the Department of Energy (DOE), a worldwide energy shortage is upon us. There just isn’t enough power in the grid to supply everyone  all the time. Semitrex, a fabless semiconductor company, is addressing energy consumption through its highly energy efficient Power Supply System(s)  on a Chip™ (PSSoC).  This family of chips is called TRONIUM™\’tron-‘E-“um\, and it represents the first comprehensive power conversion breakthrough in decades.

A Global Problem

The energy crisis packs a one-two punch. The power grid is overburdened and, at the same time, we are becoming more and more dependent on electronic devices – we rely on everything from smartphones to wearable fitness devices to help manage our lives.  Everything requires power – more than three billion electronic units manufactured each year need AC/DC power conversion. Currently, it typically takes over 14 different manufacturer’s parts to make a power supply. For years, companies have been trying to improve energy efficiency, but most have focused only incremental improvments on their few chips, to solve only part of the problem. This ‘pieces and parts’ approach – where numerous semiconductor parts are embedded on several circuit boards – has yielded only marginal  increases in energy efficiency to date.

Rethinking Power

Disrupting the existing dynamic, Semitrex has consolidated a fragmented industry by incorporating virtually every part necessary to make a power supply for circuits or chargers into one single module, vastly reducing the number of external parts.

“Everyone is looking for better energy efficiency,” noted primary inventor Michael H. Freeman, J.D., CEO and CTO for Semitrex.  “Our muxcapacitor™ cascading technology utilizes capacitive rather than inductive conversions for the primary voltage reduction. This new technology permits us to create the first comprehensive power conversion breakthrough the industry has seen in decades, which produces the highest energy efficiencies and the lowest stand-by power draws. Our cooler-running TRONIUM PSSoC requires less than a milliwatt of standby power to stay ready to respond to the next current demand.”

Leadership with Vision

The Semitrex executive team is headed by Emmy Award-winning technology inventor Freeman, semiconductor industry veteran Jay Cormier and a combined team of over 30 international semiconductor engineers. Freeman’s inventions and business acumen have been the foundation for successful start-ups over the last 25 years, and he brings this winning track record to his roles as CEO and CTO for Semitrex. Freeman holds multiple issued patents in the areas of mobile video, RFID, smart grid, power supply, and nanotechnology.

Cormier, Semitrex’s COO, has over 20 years of analog, RF and mixed signal semiconductor industry expertise across a wide section of end markets. Prior to joining Semitrex, Cormier served as the General Manager for Teridian, a smart grid company that developed the chip that is used in smart meters to measure the use of electricity.

The Power of Things to Come

The time for a change is now. “At Semitrex, we’re all about quantum-shifting ideas that are designed to save lots of energy – on a global scale,” Freeman added. “We’ve carefully planned and executed all of the steps necessary to make our disruptive technology available to the world – and efficiently power all things electric for decades to come, including the Internet of Things. The power conversion revolution has begun.”

Later this year, the company will be introducing a range of solutions based on its patented Tronium PSSoC. Manufacturers can sign up to request samples for testing and evaluation. Please visit www.semitrex.com to learn more.
