WiTricity Announces Industry’s First Development Kit for Building Rezence™-Certified Wireless Charging Systems

Watertown, MA. – Nov. 20, 2014 – WiTricity, the industry pioneer in wireless power transfer over distance, today announced the WiT-5000C3 development kit for companies looking to kick-start the creation of A4WP Rezence-certified consumer electronics devices.  The first in a series of development kits WiTricity is delivering to help licensed companies commercialize WiTricity’s proprietary technology, the WiT-5000C3 offers Rezence-tested designs for Power Transfer Units (PTUs), PTU resonators, and Power Receive Units (PRUs) targeted for developing Rezence-certified wireless charging systems. Consumer electronics makers can use the WiT-5000C3 reference design to create their own Class 3 Rezence charging systems, which are interoperable with Category 3 smartphones, tablets, and other consumer devices with similar power requirements.  Future development kits from WiTricity will cover other Rezence power levels for both PTUs and PRUs under the A4WP classification system.

Comprising an end-to-end design for a multi-smartphone or tablet wireless charging system, the WiT-5000C3 development kit includes the sample PTU and PRU devices, engineering evaluation tools, and a complete set of design documents that manufacturers need to design, evaluate, and demonstrate Rezence-ready wireless charging products, significantly reducing time to market for WiTricity licensees.  The WiT-5000C3 development kit includes all required system components – PTU, PTU resonator, PRU, and associated electronics – that have been tested for Rezence certification as well as FCC emissions, giving licensees the confidence that their WiT-5000-based designs can interoperate with Rezence solutions from other manufacturers.  More than 100 A4WP member companies are creating a robust Rezence ecosystem, and consumers will soon be able to wirelessly charge their mobile devices on charging sources that support Rezence.

“At Primax, our customers have been asking for a way to integrate wireless charging technology into their products, and we believe the WiT-5000C3 is the most effective way to create Rezence-based wireless charging solutions,” said Lawrence Liu, Primax Corporate Business Development VP.  “WiTricity is the pioneer in wireless power transfer based on magnetic resonance, and we plan to direct our customers to the WiT-5000C3 to accelerate their time to market for Rezence-based wireless charging.”

WiTricity’s foundational wireless power transfer technology is an integral part of the A4WP Rezence specification, the next-generation wireless charging technology that delivers a consistent, compelling and convenient consumer experience.  With Rezence, multiple-devices charge simultaneously, each managing their unique power and charging requirements, with a freedom of placement that gives the consumer true ease of use.  The unique Rezence capacity for vertical separation between charger and devices, and the ability to work through common building materials including wood, granite, plastic, and glass, offers the opportunity to create wireless charging areas that maintain the physical integrity of working surface by simply mounting a Rezence charging source underneath the table or counter.

“The Rezence specification is a vital part of creating market momentum for resonance-based wireless charging,” said Alex Gruzen, WiTricity CEO.  “With the WiT-5000C3, we believe WiTricity is offering the industry’s first end-to-end reference design that is designed to help consumer electronics OEMs and ODMs create Rezence-ready wireless charging systems.  Our goal is to help accelerate the adoption of Rezence by providing the expertise and intellectual property for companies looking to innovate in this exciting and rapidly-growing market.”

The WiT-5000C3 development kit includes the design for a Rezence-ready Class 3 PTU and Class 3 PTU resonator, as well as two physical Class 3 PTU concept products.  In addition, WiTricity is offering the designs for Rezence-ready Category 3 PRUs for use with the iPhone 6 and Samsung Galaxy S5, as well as one Category 3 PRU concept product in the form of a wireless charging sleeve for iPhone 5/5s.  WiTricity is currently developing additional Classes of PTU designs and Categories of PRU designs, all of which can interoperate with products from other manufacturers who have Rezence-certified deliverables.  With the WiT-5000C3, the ability to work with Rezence-tested PTUs, PTU resonators, and PRUs offers flexibility in designing Rezence-certified wireless charging systems for a wide variety of product form factors.

Available for pre-order, the WiT-5000C3 development kit is offered as a Rezence-ready reference design and development system to create end-to-end wireless charging systems for smartphones, tablets, and wearable computing devices.
