Shocking Technologies integrates simulation and design capability for embedded ESD protection into the Cadence Allegro platform

SAN JOSE, Calif. –  June 18, 2012 – Shocking Technologies, Inc., developer of the patented Voltage Switchable Dielectric™ (VSD™) nano-composite material for protecting electronic products from electrostatic discharge (ESD), today announced the integration of its ESD Simulation Module and design capability for embedded ESD protection into Cadence Design System’s Allegro® PCB technology.

Shocking Tech’s ESD Simulation module enables intelligent ESD design, allowing engineers to efficiently analyze a system net-by-net for vulnerability to direct ESD pulses and to energy coupling from adjacent nets. Recommendations from the Simulation Module can be incorporated into the layout efficiently through automated … Read More → "Shocking Technologies integrates simulation and design capability for embedded ESD protection into the Cadence Allegro platform"

ESCATEC installs $130,000 laser marker to improve PCB identification and traceability

Heerbrugg, Switzerland – 18 June, 2012 – ESCATEC, the EMS innovator, has added a laser marking machine for PCB to its production facilities at Heerbrugg in Switzerland. The CO2 laser beam is used to change the surface structure of the solder resist to give a clear and permanent marking on the surface of the PCB. The marking can be for machine-readable codes as well as text, graphics and logos, which show up as white areas on the PCB. The fully automated process writes the data for each board directly from the ERP system and verifies it with a built-in reader.

Saelig Debuts New Low-cost 300MHz Oscilloscope With Deep Memory

Pittsford, NY, USA: Saelig Company, Inc. announces the SDS9302 – a new, two-channel bench-top scope sporting a huge record length for each channel (10MSa when sampling at up to 800MSa/s; 10KSa when sampling the maximum 3.2GSa/s). This allows for zooming in on fast, intermittent pulses or glitches. The SDS9302 is a low-cost versatile scope that is packed with useful features normally only seen on higher-end DSOs, including deep memory, external video-capable trigger, auto-measurements, auto-scaling, large 8″ full color TFT LCD display, external monitor/projector output, XY mode, auto-set, averaging, math functions, USB output, waveform storage, pass/fail output and … Read More → "Saelig Debuts New Low-cost 300MHz Oscilloscope With Deep Memory"

16X Speed-Up of Map-Reduce Framework for Genome Analysis Achieved on $2,500 FPGA Module

Seattle, WA – June 14, 2012. Impulse Accelerated Technologies and Pico Computing today released performance statistics for an acceleration of the Genome Analysis Tool Kit (GATK) used in bioinformatics research. In a compelling proof-of-concept project, the Impulse and Pico team were able to speed processing of a common GATK workflow by 16X when compared to the original software-only implementation.

GATK is a software library used to create workflows for genomic sequencing, as well as being as being a collection of tools for translational medicine in projects such as the The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA).

Working from GATK code … Read More → "16X Speed-Up of Map-Reduce Framework for Genome Analysis Achieved on $2,500 FPGA Module"

Imec Shows New Paths to Scaling Advanced Gatestack and Channel Material for Next-generation CMOS at the VLSI 2012 Symposium

Leuven (Belgium), Honolulu (Hawaii, USA) – June 14, 2012 – In the effort to enhance the advanced metal-high-k gate stack for next-generation logic devices, imec successfully demonstrated higher-k dielectric with Replacement Metal Gate (Metal-Gate-Last) transistors that achieved 200x-1000x reduction in gate leakage relative to leading-edge logic devices in the industry with HfO2 high-k gate dielectric. To address the process control and scalability of the replacement metal gate for nano-scale devices, imec achieved tight electrical distribution down to 20nm gate length through detailed process optimizations. By providing fundamental insights into work-function influences due to metal intermixing in aggressively-scaled metal gates, imec’s … Read More → "Imec Shows New Paths to Scaling Advanced Gatestack and Channel Material for Next-generation CMOS at the VLSI 2012 Symposium"
