Advanced 1200V IGBTs from STMicroelectronics Last Longer, Save More Energy

Geneva, June 12, 2014 – STMicroelectronics’ latest 1200V IGBTs leverage second-generation trench-gate field-stop high-speed technology to boost energy efficiency and ruggedness in applications such as solar inverters, welders, uninterruptible power supplies, and Power-Factor Correction (PFC) converters.

ST’s new H series 1200V IGBTs have up to 15% lower turn-off losses and up to 30% lower turn-on losses. The saturation voltage (Vce(sat)) down to 2.1V (typical, at nominal collector current and 100°C) ensures minimal overall losses for higher-efficiency operation at switching frequencies above 20kHz.

In addition, these new 1200V … Read More → "Advanced 1200V IGBTs from STMicroelectronics Last Longer, Save More Energy"

Motor Driver from Diodes Incorporated Makes Smarter Cooling Systems

Plano, Texas – June 12th 2014 – By enabling the speed of fans, blowers and extractors to be simultaneously controlled by both PWM and thermistor input signals, the AM4964 motor driver helps create more responsive cooling systems for PCs, servers and industrial instrumentation.

A single-phase, full-wave, brushless DC motor driver, the AM4964 operates from a 12V supply and delivers a peak motor current of up to 1A.  Motor speed is varied between low and high temperature set-points in response to ambient temperature and PWM input … Read More → "Motor Driver from Diodes Incorporated Makes Smarter Cooling Systems"

Battery Chargers Get Faster and Smaller with Patented Diode Technology from STMicroelectronics

Geneva, June 10, 2014 – STMicroelectronics’ new family of Field-Effect Rectifier diodes (FERD) offers a unique trade-off  between low forward voltage drop (VF) and low leakage current (IR) that allows designers of equipment such as battery chargers and notebook adaptors to meet the most stringent energy-efficiency standard requirements without the expense of using synchronous rectification techniques.

Standards such as Energy Star 6.0 test the limit of what can be achieved with conventional Schottky diodes in … Read More → "Battery Chargers Get Faster and Smaller with Patented Diode Technology from STMicroelectronics"

1.8V STM32 Microcontrollers from STMicroelectronics Bridge Mobile-Platform Subsystems

Geneva, June 11, 2014 – The latest STM32 microcontrollers from STMicroelectronics are specific low-voltage devices that help overcome the challenges designers face when adding a companion chip to a low-voltage host processor. These focused low-voltage microcontrollers connect to the same digital power domain as the host, such as a 1.8V power supply, while allowing on-chip peripherals to operate from higher voltages such as 3.3V, giving freedom from the usual performance trade-offs that come with lower supply voltages.
