NXP Advances Real-Time Industrial Positioning with New Omlox Starter Kit

Enabled by the new Trimension SR048, the turnkey omlox Starter Kit delivers ready-to-deploy ultra-wideband anchors, tags and software.

What’s new: NXP Semiconductors today announced the omlox Starter Kit, developed in collaboration with SynchronicIT and Flowcate. The omlox Starter Kit is a complete, end-to-end hardware and software solution to evaluate and deploy Real-Time Location Systems (RTLS) based on the omlox standard, allowing customers to bring a standards-based, interoperable RTLS system online quickly. The kit is powered by NXP’s new Trimension® SR048, an Ultra-Wideband (UWB) SoC delivering high‑precision location accuracy needed for complex industrial environments, and the NXP MCX W72 wireless MCU.

Why it matters: According to ABI Research , RTLS deployments leveraging UWB technology are expected to grow rapidly over the next 5 years, achieving a 21% CAGR between 2025 and 2030[1]. These deployments can improve efficiency, automation and safety across industrial environments, but adoption has been slowed by fragmented technology options and fears of vendor lock‑in. The omlox open locating standard addresses these challenges with a unified, technology‑agnostic framework, ensuring multi‑vendor interoperability, backward compatibility and long‑term system viability.

The omlox Starter Kit is designed to streamline evaluation, prototyping and adoption of omlox-based RTLS. The kit leverages SynchronicIT UWB tags and anchors based on NXP’s Trimension SR048 UWB SoC and MCX W72 wireless MCU to deliver real-time location data, while SnychronicIT software serves as the real-time localization engine. Flowcate’s integrated DeepHub middleware delivers a versatile analytics platform converting data into actionable insights. Combined, this creates an intelligent, standards-based, flexible RTLS platform for asset tracking, robot positioning, worker safety zones, workflow optimization, indoor navigation, and more.

“The omlox Starter Kit demonstrates how open standards can fundamentally change the RTLS landscape,” said Charles Dachs, Executive Vice President and General Manager, Secure Connected Edge, NXP Semiconductors. “The fully integrated suite of omlox-compliant hardware and software, based on the new Trimension SR048, turns what was once a complex, proprietary undertaking into a straightforward, standards‑driven solution that customers can trust to evolve with their needs.”

“Achieving high-accuracy industrial positioning requires close alignment between hardware, software and standards,” said Vincent van der Locht, Managing Director at SynchronicIT. “Our omlox‑compliant anchors and tags, based on NXP’s UWB technology, as well as our location engine creates a seamless path to deploy precise, scalable UWB‑based RTLS. This kit gives customers an easy, future-proof way to adopt precise positioning through their industrial environment.”

“Interoperability is the foundation of reliable, scalable location intelligence, and omlox makes that a reality,” said Matthias Joest, CEO at Flowcate. “By integrating DeepHub® and our analytics suite, the omlox Starter Kit delivers precise, multi-technology location data through a single, standards-based platform, removing common barriers to RTLS adoption.”

More details: The omlox Starter Kit enables customers to quickly create a complete, configurable RTLS for precise industrial positioning. Designed for scalability, pilot installations can quickly scale to full‑facility deployments without requiring new hardware or rewriting software.

The omlox Starter Kit brings together proven technologies from SynchronicIT, NXP and Flowcate to remove the complexity of deploying precise, standards-based indoor positioning. At its core, the kit combines UWB-based location hardware with a real-time localization engine and a unified data and analytics layer. This ensures that location data is not only accurate, but immediately usable across industrial applications.

Built on NXP’s Trimension SR048 UWB SoC and MCX W72 wireless MCU, SynchronicIT’s rechargeable UWB wearable tags and anchors provide high-accuracy real-time location data, while supporting multiple connectivity options for seamless integration into industrial environments. SynchronicIT’s autotopology location engine, delivered as part of the omlox Core Zone V2.1 software stack, ensures fast setup and scalable positioning performance across different use cases. Flowcate’s DeepHub middleware and optional analytics layer turn this real-time location data into actionable insights, enabling customers to move beyond tracking to optimization and decision-making. With support for industry-standard UWB profiles such as omlox air 8 and a clear path toward coexistence with FiRa-based mobile navigation, the kit provides a future-ready RTLS platform designed to evolve alongside emerging location ecosystems.

NXP’s new Trimension SR048 industrial-grade UWB SoC provides high-precision ranging for scalable real-time location systems. Trimension SR048 delivers high-accuracy positioning across multiple UWB ranging modes, including Time Difference of Arrival (TDoA), Round Trip Time of Flight (RToF) and Downlink Time Difference of Arrival (DL-TDoA). Its low-power architecture supports compact, battery-powered tags, while seamless integration with NXP’s MCX W72 and MCX W23 MCUs accelerates development of UWB-enabled anchors, tags and smart industrial devices. Suitable for harsh industrial environments, the solution supports a temperature range of -40⁰C to 115⁰C.

The Trimension SR048 is part of NXP’s Trimension portfolio, one of the industry’s broadest UWB portfolios. Designed for interoperability, NXP’s UWB Trimension products enable UWB ranging and UWB radar across mobile, industrial, IoT and automotive applications.
