Hyperstone introduces the Use Case Tracker to optimise NAND Flash memory configuration and management

By enabling the ability to track and analyse the way an application uses Flash memory, manufacturers can now identify the most optimal Flash storage technology for any use case.

Konstanz, Germany 23. 04. 2019 – Hyperstone is pleased to offer customers access to its Use Case Tracker technology, that leverages its expertise in NAND flash management to track and analyse a customer’s unique use case. The data is gathered in the field and is analysed in order to provide manufacturers with recommendations customised to their specific use case.

The tracking facility is enabled through a firmware extension to the hySMART tool. The data captured is stored on a standard memory card, and is generated by traffic between the host and the memory. The data, such as sequential and random read patterns, the size of data transfers and the total volume of data written and read, is captured by the Use Case Tracker as the application is running, providing a unique insight into the customer’s specific workload. This data is then analysed, using hySMART software, to determine the optimal NAND flash configuration for that use case.

“The Use Case Tracker offers significant added value for customers who need to optimise their application based on how it is actually used and not how they may have imagined it would be used,” explained Steffen Allert, VP of Sales Hyperstone. “The difference can be significant, which if left unaddressed could lead to premature wear or failure.” The behavioural data captured provides workload statistics that can be entered into Hyperstone’s Life Time Estimation Tool (LTET) to enable the optimal selection of NAND flash. This could provide a critical competitive advantage for companies that must deliver Industrial-Grade storage systems in the Telecoms, Medical and Automotive sectors, or in IoT, PoS or Gaming applications. Other sectors that will benefit from the availability of the Use Case Tracker include Industrial Automation, Transport, Security and Energy. Anyone interested in accessing the Use Case Tracker technology, such as Systems Integrators, Distributors and Networking Consortiums, should contact their Hyperstone representative.
