Bourns Expands MF-MSMF Multifuse® PPTC Series with 32 Additional Part Numbers and Increases Number of Models with 60 VDC Capability

Added PPTC resettable fuses enable enhanced design flexibility with up to 55 selection options, and offer increased power ratings in the compact 1812 package size

RIVERSIDE, Calif., July 3, 2025 – Bourns, Inc., a leading manufacturer and supplier of electronic components for power, protection, and sensing solutions, today announced expansion of its Multifuse® MF-MSMF Series high power surface mount Polymer Positive Temperature Coefficient (PPTC) resettable fuses. Bourns has added 32 part numbers and has increased the number of models with 60 VDC capability. The latest additions are in response to customer demands for broader hold current (Ihold) ranges (from 100 mA to 2.6 A) and the need for increased maximum voltage (Vmax) to 60 VDC. These components are designed as superior overcurrent and overtemperature protection solutions to safeguard applications within their specified parameters.

The additions to the MF-MSMF Series employ Bourns’ innovative freeXpansion™ design that enhances its resettable fuse performance by incorporating higher hold currents and providing elevated voltage capabilities and enhanced resistance stability in an even more compact footprint. Specific models are available in the compact 1812 package size, which can help lower costs and enable significant space savings on the PCB compared to the previously-offered 2920 package. These advances offer multiple benefits for applications that include low DC voltage ports in USB, HDMI, HDTV, PC, laptop computers, data centers and portable consumer products.

“Through Bourns’ dedication to addressing protection needs and working with our power application customers, we understand the need to help them meet their higher efficiency goals. This is especially apparent as every generation of new products becomes increasingly more sophisticated and demands higher power consumption. The requirement for protection solutions with higher power ratings in a compact form factor becomes imperative. We’ve designed our Multifuse® MF-MSMF Series as an ideal solution for this demand,” said Jennifer Joseph, vice president of Bourns Protection Division.

Bourns® Multifuse® Polymer PTC Resettable Fuses are recognized for their exceptional quality and reliability through key functional tests, such as 30-minute hold current, 100-cycle trip life, and 48-hour trip endurance. Reliability is further reinforced through rigorous evaluations, including 1000-hour passive aging, 1000-hour humidity aging, and 20-cycle thermal shock testing, minimizing the risk of field failures. Additionally, the SMD terminals are finished with Electroless Nickel Immersion Gold (ENIG) plating, which improves solderability, extends shelf life and helps prevent tin whisker formation.

The 32 new part numbers added to the Bourns® Multifuse® MF-MSMF Series are available now through Bourns’ authorized distribution partners and are RoHS compliant*. These fuses have UL/CSA/TÜV recognition that meets safety criteria. The TÜV certifications encompass IEC 62319-1, IEC 60738-1, as well as IEC 60730-1:2013 clause 15, clause 17, and Annex J. These products are manufactured within a Bourns’ IATF 16949 certified facility.
