Check out Computerspielemuseum: Berlin’s computer game museum

“The Video Game Museum of Berin is undergoing a beautiful, video game history renaissance. Opened in the late 1990′s, it went through a rough patch and had to be closed by by 2000. Lucky for you, for us, and especially for everyone in Berlin, the museum reopened in a new location early this year and is doing better than ever.

Someone owes Stephen Hawking a beer now, don’t they?

The Large Hadron Collider has analyzed enough data to eliminate the Higgs Boson with 95% confidence.

“A few years ago, celebrated British physicist Stephen Hawking was widely reported in the press to have placed a provocative public bet that the LHC (along with all particle accelerators that preceded it) would never find the Higgs boson, the so-called “God particle” believed responsible for having imbued massive particles with their mass when the universe was very young.” via Scientific American</ … Read More → "Someone owes Stephen Hawking a beer now, don’t they?"

Space Oddity, a children’s book inspired by David Bowie’s classic song

Space Oddity, the classic song about fictional astronaut Major Tom by David Bowie, inspired illustrator Andrew Kolb to create a children’s book by the same name. Richly drawn and decidedly dark, Kolb’s Space Oddity is a real treasure worth checking out in its entirety in pdf.

LHCb detector causes trouble for supersymmetry theory

“Two of the general purpose detectors at the LHC, ATLAS and CMS, tend to keep a high profile, as they’re designed to be able to spot anything that comes out of the collisions—the Higgs, dark matter, or something even more exotic. LHCb is quite a bit more specialized, as it is designed specifically to track those collisions that include a particle that contains a bottom quark (generically, these particles are called B mesons). In doing so, it’s meant to provide the most precise test of a number of predictions made by the Standard Model; should … Read More → "LHCb detector causes trouble for supersymmetry theory"

U.S. solar product exports increased by 100% since 2010

“Need more proof that renewable energy products boost the US economy and create jobs? This past year saw an incredible surge in the export of solar products from the United States. While we previously relied on importing photovoltaic cells from China, the rise in popularity of renewable solar energy has more than doubled the U.S.’s production and sale of solar panels and related goods since 2010!” via Inhabitat

Code Hero: a video game that teaches you to make video games

“Most first person shooters ask kids to run around and kill enemy soldiers, demons, or prostitutes. Code Hero just wants you to kill your ignorance. An action packed video game, Code Hero is also a lesson on how to program computers. Players run around using a special ‘gun’ that lets them copy and past code in the virtual environment. They must use this code to build structures, manipulate the world around them, and ultimately defeat Null, the evil artificial intelligence that is threatening to conquer humanity.”
