Implanted hearing aid uses bone conduction to bypass defective middle ear

There may soon be help for people who have been rendered functionally deaf by problems of the middle ear. Researchers from Sweden’s Chalmers University of Technology have developed an implant that bypasses the defective middle ear, transmitting sounds to the inner ear by sending vibrations right through the skull bone.

These beautifully constructed works are made up of interlacing positive and negative spaces that seem to “float” in a fabricated suspension. He begins with a drawing, this helps him create the complex range of imagery needed to make a workable design, before cutting and assembling the paper pieces.

NASA awards contract to Bigelow Aerospace for inflatable ISS module

Harnessing energy from tornadoes

Western University engineer Louis Michaud has received an investment of $300,000 for a start-up company that aims to harness energy from controlled tornadoes created for this purpose. A single twister-generator machine could produce as much energy as a coal-fired power plant without the downside of greenhouse gas emissions.
