Embedded Display Control Applications Using FPGAs

Embedded LCD Control Applications Requirements

Graphical LCD displays are increasingly designed into demanding embedded display control and video applications such as Human Machine Interfaces (HMI) for industrial consoles, vending machines, automotive and marine dashboard clusters, household appliances, medical devices and gaming machines.  A key requirement for efficient controller design is effective solution scaling as well as optimization for both cost and performance.  Designers often need to integrate third-party display control solutions into their own designs, which require … Read More → "Embedded Display Control Applications Using FPGAs"

Synthesizing a New Category

It started more or less like any typical press briefing. OK, slightly less typical because we were live in a conference room instead of doing things by conference call. But that’s not unheard of; it’s just hard to do on a regular basis in these far-flung times.

I was there with Oasys’s Sanjiv Kaul and Paul van Besouw. And as the conversation got started, Paul launched something on his laptop, and we continued the conversation for a few minutes.

I honestly don’t remember … Read More → "Synthesizing a New Category"

Ultralow Voltage 20mV Step-Up Converter & Power Manager for Energy Harvesting Applications

MILPITAS, CA – December 1, 2009 – Linear Technology announces the LTC3108, a highly integrated step-up DC/DC converter designed to start-up and run from extremely low input voltage sources such as thermoelectric generators (TEGs), thermopiles and small solar cells. Its self-resonant topology steps up from input voltages as low as 20mV. Small temperature differences can be harvested and used to generate system power instead of traditional battery power. Energy harvesters are designed for applications requiring very low average power, but require periodic pulses of higher load current. For example, in many wireless sensor applications the circuitry is only powered to take measurements … Read More → "Ultralow Voltage 20mV Step-Up Converter & Power Manager for Energy Harvesting Applications"

Mitsubishi Electric Selects Analog Devices’ SHARC Processor For Its Automotive Digital Process Center

NORWOOD, MA   December 1, 2009 – Analog Devices, Inc. today announced that Mitsubishi Electric has selected ADI’s SHARC processor as the digital signal processing engine within its DIATONE® DA-PX1 Digital Process Center, the company’s aftermarket automotive audio amplifier. One Less Custom PCB to Design for Prototypes

SYDNEY, Dec. 1 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — Altium has released a new prototyping peripheral add-on board for its NanoBoard FPGA-based development boards.

The new board works with both the fixed-FPGA NanoBoard 3000 and the fully-configurable NanoBoard NB2. It will be available from December from Altium’s on-line distribution partners, in packs of either three or 20.

The board does away with having to create special, custom PCBs for circuit prototyping. A single on-board connector plugs into the NanoBoard to give direct access to the I/O on the host NanoBoard FPGA and common NanoBoard resources, including power and JTAG lines. Designers … Read More → "One Less Custom PCB to Design for Prototypes"
