Gresham increase power delivery with 600W Compact PCI Power Supply

May 2010 – Gresham Power Electronics, the Salisbury based MIL and Commercial power conversion specialist announces an addition to its market leading range of Compact PCI power supplies the cPCI-6U-600, providing 600 watts of output power. Gresham are responding to growing market demands for ever increasing power from the 6U cPCI footprint and believe their cPCI-6U-600 now leads the market in output power allowing users to develop higher density systems in the cPCI format.

Gresham Power’s Compact Peripheral Component Interface (compact PCI, or cPCI) series represent the industry’s leading cPCI AC/DC power supplies, delivering up to 600 W of continuous power. The full range of cPCI products incorporate the standard Positronic 47-pin connector, are fully compliant with the PICMG® 2.11 power interface specification and offer hot-swap, N+1 redundant connection and active load current share. These cPCI power supplies incorporate active power factor correction, an 85-264VAC universal AC input voltage or DC input covering a range from 18-72VDC, making them ideal for use in almost any application. Standard output voltages are 5V/65A +3.3V/80A +12V/12A -12V/1.5A and custom variants are possible. All models have a monitor and control (M&C) system based on an intelligent I2C bus. This system provides comprehensive remote status monitoring and control functionalities.

Very high efficiency and power density result from the use of advanced component and circuit technologies, such as synchronous rectification, low profile transformers and SMT components. Gresham Power’s unique design uses two converters in parallel, one for the +3.3V and the other for the +5V. This design provides the flexibility for determining individual load requirements for each output independently enabling full load currents to be drawn.

Jake Moir, Managing Director of Gresham Power Electronics, comments; “Our cPCI series provides design engineers with the flexibility they need to meet virtually any design requirements. We are finding new designs in communications, broadcast and advanced multi-media applications require increasing amounts of power which until now has meant using multiple power supplies connected in parallel. By delivering 600W in the standard cPCI package users can free-up more rack space for revenue earning electronics.”

The Gresham cPCI-6U-600 family are all RoHS compliant, feature ruggedised construction as standard and advanced status and control functions including remote inhibit, output fail alarm, over temperature warning, output remote sense, single wire current share and front panel LEDs indicate outputs OK and any fault condition.

Full international safety agency approvals are held including UL/cUL60950, EN60950, CE Mark (LVD) and EN55022 Level B. Operating temperature range is -5C to +55°C with de-rating at 2.5%/°C up to +71°C, cooling requirements are 400LFM of airflow and MTBF is calculated as >400,000 Hours per Belcore 332 issue 6.

Gresham Power provides compactPCI products, OEM power supplies, hot-swap power shelves and products for telecoms, medical, industrial and commercial applications as well as static frequency converters, DC UPS, distributed power systems and DC:AC inverters for Naval Defence systems and. Nallatech Launches Worlds Fastest PCI Express 2.0 FPGA Accelerator Card

Nallatech, a leading supplier of high-performance COTS FPGA solutions, today announced availability of the PCIe-280, an 8-lane PCI Express 2.0 FPGA accelerator card boasting the highest sustained host bandwidth available on the market. Customers deploying the PCIe-280 can increase application performance by harnessing up to 5GByte/sec of sustained host bandwidth. The PCIe-280 is the latest product to be introduced to Nallatech’s highly successful Embedded PCI Series of FPGA COTS solutions and is targeted at signal intelligence, network security and algorithm acceleration applications.

The PCIe-280 features an onboard Xilinx Virtex-5 user FPGA directly coupled to a high bandwidth, flexible memory configuration that includes ECC and parity protection. Two independent banks of QDR-II SRAM provide 8GBytes/sec of sustained, random access memory bandwidth. Up to two banks of DDR2 SDRAM memory provide 4GBytes/sec of deep storage local to the user FPGAs. Thirty-two high speed serial I/O links are exposed at the top of the card allowing multiple PCIe-280 cards to be interconnected via low latency point-to-point links. These deterministic datapaths are independent of the PCI Express bus and host operating system – an ideal way of scaling applications.

“Market demand for FPGA-attached server and blade platforms is growing rapidly as customers begin to deploy hybrid computing platforms in greater volumes,” said Craig Petrie, Product Manager at Nallatech. “Sustained host bandwidth performance is a critical parameter for many customer applications. The PCIe-280 offers on average five times greater host bandwidth than competitive offerings.”

The PCIe-280 is compatible with high density server and blade centre platforms from leading OEMs such as Cray, Dell, HP, IBM, SGI and Supermicro. Optimized VHDL memory controller IP cores and reference designs are included as part of the standard product deliverables along with driver and API source code for 64-bit Linux operating systems. Onboard FPGA, memory and I/O can be increased through population of compatible DIME-II modules.
