LightPath Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:LPTH), a manufacturer and integrator of optical and infrared technologies has introduced MANTIS, a first Multi-Spectral Infrared Camera System to overcome overheating issues and enable users to reduce the equipment needed for any infrared imaging use.
LightPath has overcome the challenges of legacy uncooled long wave cameras (LWIR) and cooled mid wave cameras (MWIR) that have high costs and shorter lifespans due to complex cooling requirements. Lightpath’s MANTIS multi spectral camera solves cooling in both the midwave range and the long wave ranges simultaneously, without the complicated, heavy and expensive systems needed today. It further adds the advantages that come from imaging in mid wave and requires fewer lenses and cameras for significant reduction in total cost, weight, and size.
“MANTIS is a leap forward in thermal imaging technology and enables us to bring optical solutions based on key differentiating technologies further up the value-chain,” said LightPath President and Chief Executive Officer Sam Rubin. “The first-of-its-kind camera system leverages our proprietary Black Diamond glass materials to enable advanced multispectral functionality and allow us to use our proprietary fabrication technologies and coatings for improved broadband performance in a small and light weight form factor.”
The Black Diamond technology is integral to reducing the need for crystal glass in infrared lenses and enables reduced size, weight, and cost of visual systems. Key applications for MANTIS include:
· Smoldering detection (such as in firefighting)
· Launch flame and rocket/missile detection
· Rifle or cannon muzzle-flash detection
· Long-range/high-altitude object detection
LightPath developed MANTIS as a solution for nearly half of the applications that have made thermal cameras a $6.7 billion market, per recent Yole Intelligence reports, which further forecast it to grow to $8.8 billion in 2026. LightPath Technologies, Inc. provides optics, photonics and infrared solutions for the industrial, commercial, defense, telecommunications, and medical industries. The company recently secured a U.S. military defense contract with an initial $2.5 million order for the company’s infrared imaging and threat detection products. The contract was awarded largely based on the performance of the company’s Black Diamond technology, which is a critical component in the company’s manufacturing of optical and infrared components including molded glass aspheric lenses and assemblies, custom molded glass freeform lenses, infrared lenses and thermal imaging assemblies, and fused fiber collimators.
