Flicq and Ioetec Cooperate on Securing the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT)

Californian remote monitoring specialist and British security company cooperate on end-to-end security

San Jose, California & Sheffield, UK. 20th February 2019. Flicq Inc. an innovator in the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) solutions and Ioetec Ltd, a company focused on securing the Internet of everything announced today that they are cooperating on providing end-to-end security from the edge to the cloud.

As the internet of things (IoT) grows there are an increasing number of sensor-based devices that are being interconnected. This provides an ever-growing attack surface for hackers and for malware risking damage to valuable industrial assets and businesses. In areas such as banking, large central servers are protected by measures such as TLS, but such methods are not well-suited to IoT devices that are usually very constrained in terms of computational resources. As a result, many IoT edge devices have poor security due to inadequate authentication and encryption among other factors.

As part of their cooperation, Ioetec will implement a version of their multi-layer authentication and encryption solution on Flicq’s platform. This approach implements all thirteen steps of the DCMS Secure by Design requirements ensuring the integrity, confidentiality and accessibility of data. Flicq’s approach to IIoT is to provide intelligence at the edge thereby having adequate computational resources for Ioetec’s security software.

“With sensors being used to monitor valuable industrial assets, it is essential that communications between the sensor and the cloud are secure”, said Karthik Rau, CEO, Flicq Inc. He added, “We are delighted to work with Ioetec as a partner with deep security expertise”.

Mark Davies, CEO, Ioetec Ltd, said “Providing edge processing ensures adequate methods can be used to secure IIoT at what has been its weakest point. We look forward to providing Flicq clients with robust security without them being security experts”.

Flicq offers a range of wireless sensors including vibration, acoustic, ultrasonic and current/power. Flicq supports a choice of connectivity including Wi-Fi, 3G/4G cellular and LoRaWAN.
