Curtiss-Wright Controls Electronic Systems Debuts New Hybricon® VITA 46/48/OpenVPX™ 3U Backplane

LITTLETON, MA – March 11, 2011 — Curtiss-Wright Controls Electronic Systemsa business group of Curtiss-Wright Controls and a leading system integrator of rugged deployed integrated electronics for the aerospace, defense and industrial markets, has announced the newest addition to its industry-leading Hybricon® family of high performance OpenVPX™ backplanes. The new 024-901-06-CEN1-01 is a 3U, 6-slot VPX REDI (VITA 48) backplane. It speeds and simplifies the integration of high performance open standards based rugged deployed subsystems based on the popular VPX and OpenVPX bus standards.

“Our family of Hybricon OpenVPX backplanes offers the industry’s highest performance 6.25 Gbaud backplanes to support accelerating adoption of OpenVPX for development and deployment.” said David Dietz, vice president and general manager of Curtiss-Wright Controls Electronic Systems group.

OpenVPX defines a set of system profiles to simplify the selection of interoperable system components.

OpenVPX profiles supported by the 024-901-06-CEN1-01 include: 

  • Backplane Profile: BKP3-CEN06-15.2.2-3
  • Payload Slot Profile: SLT3-PAY-1F2F2U-14.2.2
  • Payload Module Profile: MOD3-PAY-1F2F2U-16.2.2-(all)
  • Switch Slot Profile: SLT3-SWH-6F6U-14.4.1
  • Switch Module Profile: MOD3-SWH-6F6U-16.4.1-(all)

This high performance small form factor backplane supports data rates up to 6.25 Gbaud per VITA 68. It features a 1” pitch (7-slots wide), 5 payload slots, a data & control switch slot, star fabric topology from payload slots to the switch slot for both the data plane and control plane, and an expansion plane between the payload slots.

  • VITA 46.10 RTM connectors
  • Multiple backplane profiles available
  • Signal Integrity compliant per VITA 68, up to 6.25 Gbaud
  • High performance 6.25 Gbaud backplanes utilize – 2 level backdrill for high performance compatible with Serial RapidIO (SRIO) gen 2 and PCI Express (PCIe) gen 2 on data plane fabric, and 5 Gbaud operation on expansion plane fabric
  • Optional rear transition connectors (provided standard)
  • Optional conformal coating
  • Keying and alignment per ANSI/VITA 65 and ANSI/VITA 46.0
  • Non-Volatile Memory Read Only (NVMRO) signal (jumper selectable)
  • Optional battery backup input, jumperable to +3.3V
  • SYSCON selectable – set to 1st VPX slot as default
