Now at Mouser: STMicroelectronics’ STM32H7 MCUs with Arm PSA Protection for Connected Devices

July 18, 2018 – Mouser Electronics, Inc., the authorized global distributor with the newest semiconductors and electronic components, is now stocking STM32H7 series microcontrollers from STMicroelectronics (ST). The high-performing STM32H7 microcontrollers are designed with the same security concepts as the Arm® Platform Security Architecture (PSA) framework and combine these principles with STM32-family enhanced security features and services to boost protection for connected smart devices.

ST’s STM32H7 microcontrollers, available from Mouser Electronics, are based on a 32-bit Arm Cortex®-M7 core with double-precision floating point unit (FPU), up to 2 Mbytes of flash, and 1 Mbyte of RAM. The microcontrollers integrate hardware-based security features including a True Random-Number Generator (TRNG) and advanced cryptographic processor, which will simplify protecting embedded applications and global Internet of Things (IoT) systems against attacks.

To enable secure firmware loading, security keys and software services on the microcontroller permit OEMs to provide manufacturing partners with already encrypted firmware, eliminating the possibility of intercepting, copying, or tampering with the code. This enables programming and authenticating the device to establish the root-of-trust mechanism needed for the device to be connected to the end-user’s network and remotely updated over the air (OTA) to apply security patches or feature upgrades throughout the lifetime of the device.

The devices offer improved performance through the Chrom-ART Accelerator™ for fast and efficient graphical user-interfaces, a hardware JPEG codec that allows high-speed image manipulation, highly efficient Direct Memory Access (DMA) controllers, and the L1 cache allowing full-speed interaction with off-chip memory. Multiple power domains allow engineers to minimize the energy consumed by their applications, while plentiful inputs and outputs (I/Os), communication interfaces, and audio and analog peripherals can address a wide range of entertainment, remote-monitoring, and control applications.

Maximizing High Power Density and Efficiency in EV-Charging Applications
Sponsored by Mouser Electronics and Infineon
In this episode of Chalk Talk, Amelia Dalton and Daniel Dalpiaz from Infineon talk about trends in the greater electrical vehicle charging landscape, typical block diagram components, and tradeoffs between discrete devices versus power modules. They also discuss choices between IGBT’s and Silicon Carbide, the advantages of advanced packaging techniques in both power discrete and power module solutions, and how reliability is increasingly important due to demands for more charging cycles per day.
