Molex Announces Industry-First Spot-On Connector System

The Spot-On potting Wire-to-Board system improves process capabilities and reliability.

LISLE, IL – October 3, 2018 – Molex introduces the first-of-its-kind SMT potting wire-to-board connector system with the Spot-On 1.5 and 2.0. This system not only improves process capabilities and mechanical reliability, but also protects against water damage in White Goods products that require a potting system. Manufacturers in the home appliance industry, selling items like air conditioners, washing machines and stoves, will benefit from the 1.0 to 3.0A current and up to 36 available circuits. In addition, the 1.50 and 2.00 mm pitch allows this innovative connector to fit into an even smaller space than previous potting styles.

With the Spot-On Connector System, Molex is bringing to the market a product that allows SMT-type potting connectors with center PCB nails. The nails absorb much of the stress from temperature changes during product operation in order to stop solder from cracking with use. In addition, the potting sealant guards against water ingress with an inner positive lock design that protects against latch breakage. Each single- and double-row Spot-On connector also features a retainer to provide secure insertion of the crimped terminal, fully polarized and color-coded receptacle housing that makes wire assembly mating foolproof, and an automated SMT mounting tails that reduce manual labor.

“We’re always conscious of the ways we can help solve customer problems,” said Akihiro Tezuka, global product manager, Molex. “These industry-first Spot-On connectors are designed specifically for potting treatment and automated pick and place mounting process.”

Compared to the closest equivalent products on the market, Molex brings more circuit size options, more colors and a wider operating temperature range. Also, the possibility of electrocution or damage to the product.is significantly reduced.
