Mercury Systems Introduces Industry’s First COTS Safety-Certifiable OpenGL Graphics Library for Intel Atom Processor Families

Mercury’s BuiltSAFE OpenGL Library with Green Hills INTEGRITY-178 tuMP Real-Time Operating System Delivers the Highest Level of Functional Safety for Graphics Intensive Applications

ANDOVER, Mass. and SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Oct. 3, 2017 – Mercury Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: MRCY, www.mrcy.com) and Green Hills Software (www.ghs.com) announced the commercial availability of Mercury’s BuiltSAFE GS OpenGL library for the Intel® Atom® processor E3900 and A3900 series (formerly code-named Apollo Lake), both of which are integrated with the Green Hills safe and secure INTEGRITY®-178 tuMP real-time operating system (RTOS). All BuiltSAFE graphics libraries are designed for certification to the highest software assurance and functional safety (FuSa) levels including Aviation (RTCA/DO-178C Level A), Automotive (ISO 26262 ASIL D), Industrial (IEC 61508 SIL3) and CENELEC/Railway (EN 50128 SWSIL4) standards.

“Mercury is committed to leadership in safety-certifiable graphics software, offering the industry’s first OpenGL graphics library for Intel Atom processors designed for use in systems requiring the highest levels of functional safety,” said Ian Dunn, Vice President and General Manager of Mercury’s Sensor and Mission Processing group. “Combining our BuiltSAFE graphics libraries with the safety-proven INTEGRITY real-time operating system enables our mutual customers with the support required to safely incorporate the latest generation display solutions in the most critical safety functions across a broad FuSa market use.”

Mercury’s OpenGL Library for the Intel Atom processor E3900 and A3900 series with hardware accelerated Gen9 graphics is highly optimized to leverage the safety features of Green Hills Software’s INTEGRITY real-time operating system without sacrificing performance. Running as an INTEGRITY native driver, the graphics library will provide complete Khronos-conformant support for OpenGL ES 2.0 and SC 2.0.

“We chose to offer BuiltSAFE graphics libraries from Mercury Systems to our customers for safety certifiable, standards-based graphics because of their deep, in-house certification expertise as well as their decades of experience with high-performance graphics drivers,” said Dan Mender, Vice President, Business Development at Green Hills Software. “Taken together, the combined offering of Green Hills INTEGRITY-178 tuMP, Mercury’s BuiltSAFE GS OpenGL library, and Intel Atom forms a complete solution for the most challenging HMI-based safety-critical applications.”

Mercury’s expertise and experience in the highest Design Assurance Levels (DAL) of safety-certifiable solutions have been built on successful execution of dozens of programs over three decades. This domain knowledge is the foundation of the BuiltSAFE portfolio of open architecture modules, systems, and software for avionics, automotive, communications, video servers, and mission computing. The BuiltSAFE Graphics Suite leverages intellectual property from Mercury’s recent acquisition of Richland Technologies, LLC.

The BuiltSAFE OpenGL library is available directly from Mercury Systems or from Green Hills Software when running on its INTEGRITY-178 tuMP and INTEGRITY RTOSes.
