AVX Releases New 2mm-Pitch Right Angle Board-to-Board Battery Connectors

Developed in response to overwhelming market demand for miniaturization, new 9155-700 Series delivers compact, mechanically stable, high-integrity connections ideally suited for use in medical, industrial, & commercial applications subject to high shock & vibration

FOUNTAIN INN, S.C. (May 9, 2017) – AVX Corporation, a leading manufacturer and supplier of passive components and interconnect solutions, has released the new 9155-700 Series 2mm-pitch right angle board-to-board battery connectors, which are rated for 125VAC, up to 2A, and 5,000-cycle durability. Designed to provide miniaturized, mechanically stable, high-integrity connections in harsh environment applications subject to high shock and vibration, including: handheld and portable devices that require dock or cradle charging, patient monitoring devices and other portable medical electronics, industrial programming modules, point of sale (POS) terminals, and a broad range of IoT devices, the new 9155-700 Series connectors feature a compact design with a 4mm connector height, a stable contact point 2.1mm above the PCB, robust and reliable gold-plated beryllium copper (BeCu) contacts, two SMT anchor brackets, and optional plastic locating bosses.

“Many portable electronic devices are designed to accept right angle modules, and these devices are especially subject to the overwhelming trend toward miniaturization. So, we designed our new 9155-700 Series right-angle battery connectors with a minimal 2mm pitch and 4mm connector height while maintaining the 2A rating of our larger right angle battery connectors to help engineers respond to continual requests to minimize size while retaining, if not adding or improving upon, capabilities,” said Tom Anderson, connector product manager, AVX. “AVX offers one of the broadest standard selections of battery connectors available on the market — all based on beryllium copper contact materials for enhanced durability and reliability — and this series continues to uphold the reputation we’ve built by providing high-reliability electrical and mechanical performance designed to meet each application’s specific contact force and deflection requirements.”

Made of high-temperature nylon plastic compatible with RoHS soldering, 9155-700 Series connectors are rated for operating temperatures spanning -40°C to +125°C. Two-, three-, and four-way versions are rated for 2A, and five- and six-way versions are rated for 1.5A. The series also features a unique design that retains the contact nose within the insulator to prevent damage in both the static position and during mating deflection, and is offered with either 0.4?m or 0.8?m selective gold plating with pure tin tails to ideally suit both less demanding applications, as well as extreme environment applications, which can benefit from the increased durability and wear resistance enabled by heavier gold plating.

AVX also offers right angle board-to-board battery connectors with a 2.5mm pitch (the 9155-500 Series) and a 3mm pitch (the 9155-300 Series).
