Vivante Adopts Carbon Design Systems’ System-Level Modeling, IP Deployment Tools

SUNNYVALE, CALIF. and ACTON, MASS. –– May 4, 2010 –– Vivante Corporation, an embedded graphics technology leader, and Carbon Design Systems™ today signed a strategic, multi-year agreement where Carbon Model Studio™ will be used to generate and deploy accurate models of Vivante’s Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) cores.

Vivante’s GPU cores compiled with Carbon Model Studio will provide system-on-chip (SoC) architects and designers with 100% cycle accurate models to analyze performance, make architectural trade-offs and configure systems for Vivante’s technology.  Software engineers can leverage these models to enable early software driver development and characterization.

Coupled with Carbon’s ARM cycle-accurate models and Fast Models from ARM, Carbon Model Studio provides a complete modeling solution for virtual platforms, including Carbon’s SoC Designer Plus.  This gives architects, system designers and software engineers a virtualized SoC platform for early development.

“Using Carbon models of our GPU cores, we can provide our customers with the accuracy and speed they need to integrate our technology into their SoC-based designs,” says Jeff Li, general manager of Vivante China.  “We can confidently support them with these models knowing that, when they get silicon back, it will behave exactly as the models predicted.  Providing these models to our customers early in the design cycle shortens time to market and provides the accuracy they need to hit their performance targets.”

Adds Andy Ladd, Carbon’s vice president of applications and methodology:  “This relationship illustrates how IP vendors providing cutting-edge technology can leverage Carbon’s modeling products and virtual platforms to provide early access to their customer base.  Our products help solidify customer design-ins of Vivante’s core IP by providing secure, accurate models that work in any virtual platform environment for architectural analysis/optimization and pre-silicon system and software validation.”
