Avnet Releases Zynq Transceiver Evaluation Kit Globally

PHOENIX—October 12, 2016Avnet, Inc., a leading global technology distributor, today released the Avnet Zynq Transceiver Evaluation Kit, a low-cost reference design that streamlines evaluation of Xilinx® Zynq®-7000 All Programmable SoC systems based on the PicoZed family of System-on-Modules (SOMs) for solutions that require transmission of large amounts of data at high communication rates or over long distances. The Kit, which targets applications in markets including medical, security, embedded computing and industrial automation, is priced at $649 and is available to customers in the Americas, EMEA, Asia and Japan. No startup fees are required for evaluation and development.

The Avnet Zynq Transceiver Evaluation Kit features the PicoZed 7015 SOM, which includes four high-speed serial transceiver lanes. The Kit also includes fully tested cables and adapters, eliminating the need to spend valuable engineering time and budget sourcing these accessories and coming up to speed on complex fiber optic technologies. A brief video demonstration of the Kit can be viewed here.

“This out-of-box reference design gives developers the opportunity to quickly evaluate widely used transmission protocols, including Gigabit Ethernet, PCIe Gen 1, XAUI and SATA, with best-in-class IP, software APIs, reference designs and drivers,” said Daniel Rozwood, senior technical marketing engineer, Avnet Electronics Marketing. “In addition, by utilizing the 8T49N242-006NLGI Universal Frequency Translator (UFT) from Integrated Device Technology, Inc. (IDT®) as the clock source, we offer users one of the most versatile clocking solutions on the market.”

“IDT’s flexible, feature-rich UFT 8T49N242 timing chip provides the precision clocking performance required for today’s high-bandwidth solutions,” said Kris Rausch, general manager of IDT’s timing group. “By pairing IDT’s technology and the PicoZed 7015 SOM in the cost-effective Avnet Zynq Transceiver Evaluation Kit, Avnet enables customers to speed their time to market and maximize the value they get as they deploy these technologies to scale their high-performance systems.”

The Avnet Zynq Transceiver Evaluation Kit (cost $649) includes Small Form-Factor Pluggable (SFP) module with Multimode Simplex Loopback Adapter, (SubMiniature version A) SMA cables, PCIe Card Edge Connector and FMC-LPC Connector and is now available from Avnet Electronics Marketing.
