ProTek Devices’ Newest Diodes Protect Connectivity Ports and Entertainment Devices

TEMPE, Ariz. – August 30, 2016 – ProTek Devices™ has introduced two 4-channel steering diode / transient voltage suppressor arrays (TVS array) ideal for 4-line circuit protection in various popular connectivity ports and entertainment devices. These applications include HDMI ports, display ports, Gigabit Ethernet, USB ports, set top boxes (STB), flat panel monitors and SMART TVs, laptops and desktops, and more. The new components protect their circuitry against damaging effects of electrostatic discharges (ESD) and electrical fast transients (EFT).

The PLR0514LC and PLR3343 are ultra-low capacitance steering diodes / TVS arrays.  The PLR0514LC meets stringent IEC requirements for 61000-4-2 (ESD): air – 15kV, contact – 8kV, and 61000-4-4 (EFT): 40A – 5/50ns. The PLR3343 is compatible with IEC 61000-4-2 (ESD): air – 15kV, contact – 8kV, and 61000-4-4 (EFT): 40A – 5/50ns, and with 61000-4-5 (lightning): 5A – 8/20 micro seconds. Capacitance for the PLR0514LC is 0.48pF typical, I/O-GND, and 0.35pF typical, I/O-I/O, while for the PLR3343 it is 0.6pF max, I/O-GND, and 0.45pF max, I/O-I/O. Both parts also boast a low clamping voltage. The PLR0514LC has an operating voltage of 5V and the PLR3343 operates at 3.3V. The components are also RoHS and Reach compliant.

Also, at higher operating frequencies or faster edge rates, insertion loss and signal integrity are a major concern for electronics engineers. These devices aid in removing this concern. The components, in conjunction with passive components integrated into a TVS / filter network, can be used for electromagnetic interference / radio frequency interference (EMI / RFI) protection.

Mechanical Packaging and Availability

Both parts are provided in an optimized molded DFN-10 package suited for high speed data line PCB layout. They have an approximate weight of only 7 milligrams. The packaging also features lead-free pure-tin plating (annealed) and a solder reflow temperature of (pure-tin – Sn, 100) 260 to 270 degrees Celsius. In addition, it has a flammability rating of UL 94V-0. ProTek Devices offers the PLR0514LC and PLR3343 in 8mm tape and reel, per EIA standard 481, in minimum quantities of 3,000. Pricing information and purchasing details can be had by contacting ProTek Devices or an authorized distributor or representative. ProTek Devices has distributor and representative channels available worldwide across the USA, Europe, Asia, Latin America and more.
