Realtek Licenses Cadence Tensilica Fusion DSP to Support Ultra-Low-Power Always-On Functions in the RTS3110/RTS3111 Context Hub Chip

SAN JOSE, Calif., February 23, 2016—Cadence Design Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: CDNS) and Realtek Semiconductor Corp., today announced that Realtek has licensed the Cadence® Tensilica® Fusion digital signal processor (DSP) to support ultra-low-power functionalities in its Context Hub chip. Realtek collaborated with Cadence software partners CyweeMotion http://ip.cadence.com/news/552/330/CyweeMotion-s-Sensor-Fusion-Hub-Software-Now-Available-on-Cadence-Tensilica-Fusion-DSP and Cyberon http://ip.cadence.com/news/537/330/Cyberon-Optimizes-CSpotter-Voice-Recognition-Software-for-Cadence-Tensilica-Fusion-and-HiFi-DSPs to integrate their sensor fusion and voice-trigger always-on functions (respectively) to Realtek’s RTS3110/RTS3111 chip. This solution is ideal for seamless integration into any smartphone, tablet or wearable device and will be demonstrated at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, February 22 to 25, 2016, at Fira Gran Via, Hall 6, Stand 6L36.

The RTS3110/RTS3111 Context Hub from Realtek is a highly integrated motion and voice-sensing solution whose high-performance and low-power consumption make it ideal for mobile devices. It embeds the Fusion DSP core and Realtek Voice Activity Detection (VAD) for motion sensing and voice wakeup/recognition detection. By combining motion and voice functions in one single chip, system design complexity of always-on motion and voice-sensing applications can be reduced. The availability of Realtek’s RTS3110/RTS3111 enables system OEMs to take advantage of the Fusion DSP’s ultra-low-power capabilities without compromising performance. QFN (RTS3110) and WLCSP (RTS3111) packages are available for meeting various application needs.

The Tensilica Fusion DSP is a licensable semiconductor intellectual property (IP) core based upon the Xtensa® processor architecture, and is highly configurable and scalable for low-energy Internet of Things (IoT) applications including always-on listening. “As the mobile industry continues to evolve, it needs to keep up with consumer demand for more sophisticated features and capabilities enabled by intelligent sensor management,” said Yee-Wei Huang, vice president and spokesman of Realtek. “We worked with Cadence software partners to integrate their Tensilica Fusion DSP-optimized always-on sensing functions to provide these features to customers that are developing smartphone, tablet, and wearable devices. Our RTS3110/RTS3111 will simplify the implementation of low-power designs with a single-chip solution to offload always-on motion and voice-sensing capabilities.”

“Realtek’s RTS3110/RTS3111 Context Hub chip delivers customers a market-leading solution for always-on sensing,” said Larry Przywara, group director of audio/voice DSP marketing at Cadence. “By integrating the Fusion DSP, it provides energy-efficient scalability to support increasingly complex sensing algorithms, a key competitive differentiation for mobile devices.”
