Renesas Electronics Europe and SEVENSTAX Announce Solution that Supports Secure Web Access Using Standard Internet Protocols over a PROFINET Communication

Düsseldorf, November 24, 2015 – Renesas Electronics Europe, a premier supplier of advanced semiconductor solutions, and SEVENSTAX, one of the leading specialists for embedded Internet protocol stacks and applications, today announced the availability of a secure connectivity solution for industrial automation applications that supports secure web access using standard internet protocols over a PROFINET communication.

A demo of the solution will be showcased during the SPS IPC Drives fair in Nuremberg (24-26 Nov) at the Renesas stand 445 in Hall 6.

The secure connectivity solution is based on: Renesas’ PROFINET IO Device Chip TPS-1 supporting PROFINET IRT (isochronous real time); and the RX630 Group of microcontrollers (MCUs) as a host device. The provided software framework for the RX630 Group contains a software library to interface the PROFINET hardware and an IoT stack to implement common internet protocols such as a webserver and an AJAX/JSON API for the web application. The web application for the solution is based on SEVENSTAX’s Webdesktopframework and can be stored in the MCUs’ internal flash or in external flash memory. A  comprehensive demo firmware is available showing the interaction between the web application and Renesas’ PROFINET IRT – TPS-1 solution kit, combining an evaluation board with software.

The webserver is protected with secure user authentication including an extensive user & group management. Further protocols and services, e.g. TLS, IPv6, secure Firmware-Update and even additional fieldbus protocols are available as RX630 Group compatible software packages. The ready-to-run software package, the web application framework and the possibility to get direct support from developers can reduce time-to-market to minimum when using Renesas’ PROFINET IRT – TPS-1 solution kit together with SEVENSTAXIoT solutions.

PROFINET IO Device Chip TPS-1 is designed for simplified and cost-efficient implementation of PROFINET IRT interfaces for automation devices. It is a highly integrated single chip solution that meets all requirements of the PROFINET IRT protocols. The configurable host interfaces facilitate the flexible realization of different use cases like direct connection of an external host CPU or digital I/Os without additional circuitry.

RX630 Group has six flash memory capacities and eight package variations. All the devices of the RX630 Group are equipped with E2 data flash capable of 100,000 rewrites and enhanced peripheral functions with increased numbers of channels including timers, USB 2.0 function module, a flexible, multichannel serial communication interface, I2C bus interface, CAN, 10-bit and 12-bit A/D converter, and 10-bit D/A converter. In particular, built-in features such as RTC with timestamp, temperature sensor, independent watchdog timer, and power-on reset and low-voltage detection controller enable the number of external parts to be reduced.
