Renesas Selects Express Logic’s X-Ware™ Exclusively for Use in Renesas Synergy™ Platform

San Diego, CA, June 17, 2015—Express Logic, Inc., the worldwide leader in royalty-free real-time operating systems (RTOSes), today announced that Renesas Electronics has selected Express Logic’s X-Ware™ exclusively as the cornerstone software solution for its new Renesas Synergy™ Software Package.
X-Ware encompasses the popular ThreadX® RTOS, NetX™ IPV4 and NetX DUO™ IPv4/IPV6 TCP/IP stacks, USBX™ USB Host/Device/OTG protocol stack, FileX® MS-DOS-compatible file system, GUIX™ graphical user interface and the TraceX® graphical event-analysis tool.

Renesas Electronics, a premier supplier of advanced semiconductor solutions, designed its Renesas Synergy™ Platform to remove many obstacles that embedded-system design engineers face in developing products for the growing Internet of Things (IoT) and industrial markets. As a result, the Renesas Synergy™ Platform can reduce time to market and total cost of ownership. Find more information on Renesas Synergy™ Platform here.

The Innovative “Software First” Approach

The key advantage of the Renesas Synergy™ Platform hinges on the “software first” approach, which enables engineers to begin development at the API level instead of first having to spend valuable time developing, integrating, and testing generic software products from multiple vendors. In keeping with the “software first” approach, Renesas has fully integrated X-Ware into its Renesas Synergy™ Software Package (SSP). The SSP uses qualified embedded software, tested to commercial standards with ensured compatibility across all Renesas Synergy MCUs.

“We designed Renesas Synergy™ to be software-first, right from the outset,” commented Ali Sebt, Senior Vice President, Renesas Electronics Corporation. “We selected Express Logic’s X-Ware as the cornerstone of our Renesas Synergy™ Software Package based on the X-Ware feature set, which provides a true integrated platform for our embedded systems customers.”

Renesas provides direct technical support for all components of Renesas Synergy™, giving its customers worldwide a single point of contact for Renesas Synergy™ software, Renesas MCUs, and Renesas hardware solutions. By coupling this with dedicated regional engineering support from Express Logic, Renesas can further ensure prompt, expert technical assistance, and accountable resolution of hardware and software issues.

X-Ware and Renesas Synergy™ Ideal for the IoT

X-Ware is based on its widely deployed, popular real-time multitasking ThreadX RTOS, which features fully preemptive, preemption-threshold™, and round-robin scheduling capabilities, priority inheritance, event chaining, real-time event trace, run-time stack analysis and completely deterministic processing. ThreadX is the first RTOS to have earned UL/IEC 60730/60335 certification, also is certified for UL 1998, IEC 61508/62304, and ISO 26262, and is 100-percent compliant with MISRA-C:2004 and MISRA C:2012.

Express Logic’s X-Ware provides an ideal means of facilitating the rapid exchange of data required by the IoT. As well, the Renesas Synergy Platform fills a vital need among embedded system developers for high-speed networking and high-performance GUIs in a small-footprint solution. Together, these products help developers deliver systems and solutions for the IoT faster and more cost effectively.

“We are very proud and pleased that Renesas selected our RTOS and middleware for the new Renesas Synergy™ Platform,” said William E. Lamie, president of Express Logic. “This unprecedented combination of production-ready software and hardware provides a groundbreaking approach to helping new-product developers reduce time to market and associated costs. By building the Renesas Synergy™ Software Package around our industry-leading, field-proven X-Ware products, Renesas offers their customers a best-of-class combination of advanced technology, with expert worldwide technical support backed by Express Logic dedicated regional resources.”

Licensing

Renesas provides X-Ware licenses granting unlimited use for worldwide development and distribution as a standard part of its Synergy™ Software Package at no additional cost to Renesas Synergy™ customers.
