Avnet Electronics Marketing Experts to Address IoT and Embedded Linux Development Opportunities at Freescale Technology Forum

PHOENIX—June 16, 2015—Avnet Electronics Marketing, an operating group of Avnet, Inc. (NYSE: AVT), announced today that four Avnet technical experts will be among the featured presenters at the Freescale® Technology Forum, June 22-25, 2015, at the J.W. Marriott, Austin, Texas. Avnet software enablement engineers Chris Young and Des Howlett will lead a four-hour, hands-on workshop on Embedded Linux development, while Technical Marketing Manager Peter Fenn and Strategic Solutions Architect John Weber will focus on design challenges and state-of-the-art solutions for smart networks and IoT security.

Freescale Technology Forum (FTF) features four days and over 350 hours of in-depth training, hands-on workshops and demonstrations from Freescale and its ecosystem partners. In addition, the FTF technology lab will offer more than 250 product and technology demonstrations.

“The Freescale Technology Forum brings incredible opportunities for attendees to innovate and shape the future of embedded design,” said Alex Iuorio, senior vice president of supplier development at Avnet Electronics Marketing. “Within this environment, our highly skilled technical experts can share their insights into some of the key development challenges faced by the engineering community as they seek to differentiate their smart network/IoT-based new product designs.”

On Tuesday, June 23, Avnet software engineers Chris Young and Des Howlett will present a four-hour, hands-on workshop entitled “Yocto Linux Fundamentals Using i.MX 6SoloX Applications Processors.” The class, which was created to equip engineers with the primary skills necessary for Embedded Linux development, will take attendees through the foundational elements of Embedded Linux as well as a lab session that will run through the entire Yocto flow (setup, configure, build and installation) for a Yocto ProjectTM, based on real development hardware. Attendee will also be shown the Yocto Project recipe structure, which can be customized for the developer’s own hardware. Reserved seating is required for this workshop.

Two additional technical sessions will be presented by Avnet technical experts on Wednesday, June 24: Avnet Technical Marketing Manager Peter Fenn will present “Prototyping Cloud IoT Products Using FRDM-K22F and Shield-to-Pmod™ Wi-Fi and BLE Board,” and Strategic Solutions Architect John Weber will present “Implementing IoT Security Using the LS1021A-IOT Gateway.” Both presentations will include a lecture and technology demonstration.

Avnet also invites forum attendees to stop by pedestals 320-325 for a number of technical demonstrations, including a cellular-based beverage ordering system, IoT device prototyping using FRDM-K22F + LSR Wireless Shield and Linux for the IoT made easy with Wind River Linux.
