Express Logic Extends X-Ware Platform™ Support

San Diego, CA, January 26, 2015—Express Logic, Inc., the worldwide leader in royalty-free real-time operating systems (RTOSes), has expanded its support for X-Ware Platform™, the company’s target-specific, integrated run-time software that combines all X-Ware components (ThreadX®, NetX™, USBX™, FileX®, GUIX™, and TraceX®) pre-ported and fully integrated for use on specific development boards. X-Ware Platform helps developers avoid the significant development and integration work normally associated with the use of generic software products on a specific board.

First introduced with support for the Renesas RZ/A1-based RSK board, X-Ware Platform is now available for these additional boards:

• Atmel SAMA5D3x-EK
• STMicro STM324xG-EVAL
• TI AM335x Starter Kit

X-Ware Platform uses the board-support package (BSP) and peripheral drivers supplied by each board manufacturer as a starting point. However, X-Ware Platform goes well beyond that, adding seamless integration of those drivers with Express Logic’s X-Ware products and enabling each one to operate fully on that board. X-Ware Platform also resolves any conflicts associated with the use of multiple X-Ware products simultaneously. Normally this integration is left for the developers, delaying the start of real application development work.

X-Ware Platform now is available to embedded Internet of Things (IoT) developers using processors from Atmel, STMicro, TI, and Renesas, using any of the supported boards in their development system. Express Logic plans to continue to expand support for X-Ware Platform to the most commonly used development boards and kits, in partnership with the leading suppliers of microprocessor-based systems for the IoT.

“As a leading provider of smart, connected devices in the Internet of Things, we are committed to providing the necessary tools for our customers to design their next-generation solutions,” said Jacko Wilbrink, Senior Director of MPUs, Atmel Corporation. “Express Logic’s X-Ware Platform provides all the necessary software tools for designers using our SAMA5 family, including RTOS, network connectivity, graphic displays, a file system, and connectivity solutions. We are committed to providing the right tools for our customers so they are able to bring their innovative IoT products quickly to market.”

“ST has catapulted the STM32 family into the leading position among Cortex M-core MCUs by making it easy and fun to quickly develop applications with a complete ecosystem of development tools from ST and its partners,” said Laurent Desseignes, Microcontroller Ecosystem Marketing Manager, STMicroelectronics. “X-Ware Platform finishes an outstanding tool suite by letting designers choose from a broad spectrum of quick-start to royalty-free development tools.”

“We are excited that Express Logic has expanded its support for the X-Ware Platform and included TI’s AM335x processors,” said Adrian Valenzuela, Marketing Manager, Texas Instruments. “The X-Ware Platform delivers customers all the software they need in one package, which will allow our customers to focus on optimizing their designs and getting to market quickly instead of spending time selecting, integrating, and optimizing their products with different components.”

Express Logic began in 1996 with its ThreadX RTOS, now deployed in over 2 billion electronic products, many of which operate within the IoT. Since then, Express Logic has added file system, IPv4/IPv6 networking, USB, and graphics support, as well as new tools for system trace and optimization. X-Ware Platform’s expansion is part of Express Logic’s continuing strategy to make IoT development as easy as possible, speed time to market, and make its customers’ products as successful as possible.

“Before X-Ware Platform, time to market was stymied by component selection, driver development, product integration, and optimization across a multi-vendor platform,” noted William E. Lamie, President of Express Logic. “X-Ware Platform eliminates all of that. By knitting the entire RTOS, middleware, and IDE solution together in a board-specific reference platform that includes optimized drivers and BSP, Express Logic accelerates time to market. X-Ware Platform enables developers to focus immediately on their proprietary product attributes and not waste time re-inventing the wheel.”

X-Ware Platform is available for supported boards, with over fifteen reference projects for evaluation and product development. These projects illustrate the use of each X-Ware product individually, as well as in combination. This ensures that IoT developers get a head start on incorporating features such as a graphical user interface with high-speed networking, USB, and file management within a real-time system.

Express Logic’s X-Ware Platform will be on display at Embedded World 2015, February 24-26, 2015, Nuremberg, in Hall-4, Stand-270.
