MilSource introduces first Power over Ethernet (PoE) solution from Techaya to power cameras and sensors on existing US defense industry mobile Ethernet-infrastructure

Los Angeles – DEC. 9, 2015, 2014 – MilSource, a U.S. distributor of military-grade Ethernet connectivity solutions, today announced availability of Techaya’s MILTECH 910PoE (Power over Ethernet) rugged, 8-port, MIL-STD gigabit switch. It provides both data connectivity and power to PoE-enabled cameras, WiFi access points, mesh nodes and other devices that are in compliance with IEEE 802.3af/at standards for power over Ethernet.

The MILTECH 910PoE is ideal for mobile Ethernet-equipped applications, such as vetronic and avionic platforms. It is the only military-grade gigabit Ethernet switch on the market that eliminates the need for additional power sources, as it offers a total budget of 330 watts dynamically allocated over 8 ports (up to 60 watts per port) to power both IEEE 802.3at and 802.3af compliant devices through an Ethernet cable. It can drastically reduce space requirements and wiring complexity by eliminating those 8 power sources and associated wiring within a single mobile platform.

“Before today, available military-grade PoE switches didn’t provide power to all ports — or, if all ports supported PoE, each port’s power budget would be less than what the 802.3af standard calls for,” explained Ronen Isaac, general manager of MilSource. “That was OK when devices needed less than 7.5 watts of power, but most of today’s sophisticated cameras and sensors now require a full 30W power draw. The MILTECH 910 PoE is the only IP67 Ethernet switch on the market with the ability to dynamically allocate up to 60W of power per port, on all ports, while still providing high speed gigabit Ethernet connectivity.”

The MILTECH 910PoE features mechanical packaging improvements built to comply with military standards for airborne and ground environmental compliance and reliability, and is specially hardened to provide impact and shock/vibration protection. The switch is compact, yet offers eight triple-speed (10/100/1000 Mbps) Ethernet ports, and has advanced network features including VLANs, traffic prioritization (QoS), bandwidth aggregation and dynamic POE management.
