Circuit Protection Diode from ProTek Devices Targets Industrial Equipment CAN Bus Lines

ELECTRONICA, MUNICH – Nov. 10, 2014 – At the Electronica trade fair in Munich November 11-14, ProTek Devices™ will debut a new electrostatic discharge (ESD) circuit protection diode for industrial applications such as assembly line automation, access control systems, machinery, and more. The new overvoltage protection component is the PESD2CAN. It’s designed to protect two industrial Controller Area Network (CAN) bus lines from ESD and other electrical fast transients (EFT).

ProTek Devices’ PESD2CAN is also ideal for circuit protection in other industrial applications such as those using DeviceNet bus lines. ESD protection is > 25 kilovolts. The new component is compatible with IEC standards 61000-4-2 (ESD): air 15kV, contact 8kV; with 61000-4-4 (EFT): 40A, 5/50ns; and with 61000-4-5 (surge): 4A, 8/20 micro seconds. It features 200 watts of peak pulse power per line (typical = 8/20 micro seconds). In addition, the PESD2CAN provides a low clamping voltage, low capacitance, and low leakage current. It is also compliant with the RoHS and REACH standards.

The new diode is provided in a molded JEDEC SOT-23 package that has an approximate weight of eight milligrams. Other important mechanical characteristics include lead-free pure-tin plating (annealed) and a solder reflow temperature of (pure-tin – Sn, 100) 260-270 degrees Celsius. Its flammability rating is UL 94V-0. Recommended operating and storage temperature ranges are -55 to 150 degrees Celsius.

ProTek Devices will be exhibiting many overvoltage and overcurrent circuit protection components during the Electronica trade show. The company’s booth is located at hall A5, booth 138. More information about the international trade fair can be found at http://www.electronica.de/

Pricing and Availability

ProTek Devices’ PESD2CAN is now available in mass quantities. Pricing varies by the number of units per order. The parts are available in 3,000 unit minimums in eight millimeter tape and reel, per EIA standard 481. A data sheet for the PESD2CAN circuit protection diode can be download from the ProTek Devices website.
