Xilinx and SAI Technology Announce Availability of First All Programmable Software Defined Radio Reference Design for LTE User Equipment

SAN JOSE, Calif.Oct. 14, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — Xilinx, Inc. (NASDAQ: XLNX) and SAI Technology announce the availability of the first LTE UE (User Equipment) Software Defined Radio reference design for the Xilinx® Zynq® All Programmable SoC.  The LTE UE reference design, based on the Zynq All Programmable SoC and implemented with Vivado® HLS, is fully customizable at all protocol layers, supporting any programmable wireless needs. It also provides direct user-to-user ad-hoc communications for Public Safety or Military Software Defined Radio (SDR) applications. The Zynq SDR implementation allows protocol adaptation for public safety radios that can make and receive voice calls, transmit images and videos, and provide ad-hoc and low latency voice and video communications.

Zynq All Programmable SoC devices are the perfect platform for Software Defined Radio (SDR) designs due to their efficient, low power, high performance capabilities for wideband signal processing. The reference design provides a great starting point for customized variations on the protocol layers to adapt LTE UE to special communications requirements needed for applications outside of the commercial cellular market.  A key advantage of a fully programmable Zynq SDR LTE UE Public Safety Broadband solution is longer radio service life while allowing for future LTE UE release updates.

“Adaptation of wireless LTE-based broadband portable radios for Public Safety creates a key application for the Zynq All Programmable SoC. The LTE UE reference design supports full programmability for all protocol layers, and provides a platform for user-to-user ad-hoc communications systems,” said Yousef Khalilollahi, senior director, aerospace and defense market segment at Xilinx.

“SAI Technology is pleased to integrate LTE UE reference design into the Zynq All Programmable SoC since it is fully customizable to meet any programmable wireless needs,” said Dr. Venkat Rayapati, CEO of SAI Technology.

Availability

The LTE UE reference design can be evaluated on the Avnet Software Defined Radio Kit (AES-ZSDR3-ADI-G) available at http://www.em.avnet.com/en-us/design/drc/Pages/Zynq-7000-AP-SoC–AD9361-Software-Defined-Radio-Systems-Development-Kit.aspx.  To schedule a demonstration of this new technology, please contact your local Xilinx sales representative.
