New Position Sensor with Full-scale Measurement Ranges from 2 inches to 100 inches Available from Measurement Specialties

Hampton, Va. September 2014 – Measurement Specialties (NASDAQ: MEAS), an expert in sensor design and manufacturing, now offers the PT420, an absolute linear position sensor with full-scale measurement ranges from 2 inches to 100 inches.  The sensor’s two output signals, 2-wire 4-20 mA and 3-wire 0-20 mA, offer feedback signal linearly proportional to the position of the sensor’s extension cable.

The cable-actuated PT420 provides high accuracy and fine resolution without perfect parallel alignment for easy implementation.  Multiple cable tension and electrical connection options, combined with the large full stroke ranges, provide designers with a flexible, high accuracy sensor developed for their requirements.

The classic string pot design makes the sensor suitable for numerous industrial automation and testing applications.  These include accurately measuring position on hydraulic cylinders found in factories and utilities as well as for proper gate position in fresh water or wastewater distribution systems and in valve opening for process-related applications.

The PT420 uses a potentiometer that provides an essentially infinite output resolution. Repeatability is ±0.05% full stroke with an accuracy of ±0.15% full stroke for most ranges. The sensor operates from -40°C to +90°C and withstands 10 g of vibration to 2,000 Hz maximum.

A simple dip-switch setting located on the internal signal board enables output signal direction to be reversed at any time.  Users then just adjust the zero and span trimpots to ensure signal values match the beginning and end stroke points.

Encased in an IP50 NEMA 1 rated anodized aluminum housing, the cable-actuated PT420 is less than 5 inches high when the stainless steel cable is retracted, and weighs less than 2 lbs.

Technical Specifications:

  •  Output signal options: 4 mA to 20 mA (2-wire) or 0 mA to 20 mA (3-wire)
  •  Repeatability of ±0.05% full stroke
  •  Accuracy to ±0.15% full stroke for most ranges
  •  Classic string pot design

Pricing and delivery is dependent upon quantity ordered.
