Calling all tech start-ups to enter – Discovering Start-Ups 2014 Competition

08.07.14 Cambridge, UK: Cambridge Wireless and Silicon SouthWest are calling on innovative tech start-ups and digital entrepreneurs from across the UK to enter the Discovering Start-Ups 2014 competition. With extraordinary start-up stories coming from hi-tech hubs like Cambridge’s Silicon Fen and Shoreditch’s Silicon Roundabout, the annual competition provides a showcase for disruptive newcomers to the wireless technology industry and demonstrates that the UK start-up scene has everything it takes to successfully compete with Silicon Valley’s best.

“DS14 Competition serves as a springboard for the most promising UK based start-ups and early stage wireless companies” says David Cleevely, CBE, FREng, FIET and Chairman of CW. “Building on last year’s success we are expecting to see an impressive line-up of ambitious tech-savvy entrepreneurs. With “angel” investors and venture capitalists attending the event, entering the competition is a great way for young start-ups to gain recognition and to get access to potential investment and expert advice”.

Taking place in Deloitte’s prestigious London offices on 22nd October 2014, this FREE to enter competition will give finalists the opportunity to pitch their ideas to the great and the good within the technology and investment sectors including: Google, BT, Broadcom, IBM, Orange Labs, Samsung, London Business Angels, Cambridge Angels and many more. The closing date for applications is 12 noon Tuesday
26th August 2014. The finalists will be announced in early September.

With a £5000 prize package for winners, this is a unique opportunity for both start-ups and potential investors to gain valuable PR exposure and network with representatives and business insiders from cutting-edge companies within the wireless industry. This is also a chance for industry to check out the hottest tech start-ups in UK. Current entrants include Audiowings, Cornerstone, Swipe, Sideways 6, Billion Dollar Boy, Powr of You, Phaide, Ingen.io, Office Essential, Phundee.com, WaveOptics Ltd., Filmies, Chartburst Ltd and Airstoc.

“From cloud-based idea networks, market-research and crowdfunding platforms to thermal measuring & visualisation apps and wearable augmented reality displays, this year’s entrants represent a thriving UK innovation, entrepreneurship and economy resilience” says David Cobb, the DS14 sponsor and Partner at Deloitte. “Discovering Start-Ups Competition is a great initiative offering an insight into emerging technologies within the UK and providing an opportunity for start-ups to tap into a pool of expertise and funding”.
