Mentor Graphics Delivers Embedded Linux Software and Development Tools for Award-Winning AMD G–Series Platform

WILSONVILLE, Ore., June 4, 2014 – Mentor Graphics Corporation (NASDAQ: MENT) today announced the availability of Mentor® Embedded software for the new x86 AMD Embedded G-Series system-on-chip (SoC) (previously codenamed: “Steppe Eagle”) and central processing unit (CPU) (previously codenamed: “Crowned Eagle”) product families. As gold-level members of The Linux Foundation’s Yocto Project, AMD and Mentor Graphics have entered into a multi-year agreement to provide embedded developers with a comprehensive embedded Linux® -based tools solution.

Mentor Graphics’ partnership with AMD provides an embedded ecosystem for software developers to quickly build Linux-based applications for AMD G-Series devices. Embedded developers are able to immediately begin their evaluation, prototyping, and development today by downloading Mentor Embedded Linux Lite and Sourcery™ CodeBench Lite products, both tailored for the new AMD G-Series SoC and CPU product families.

The AMD G-Series SoCs provide embedded developers with enhanced security, value and superior performance, ideal for healthcare, finance, education and retail applications. For data center and cloud computing, the new G-Series CPU family targets networking and communications infrastructure applications, as the devices support a wide range of peripherals – an ideal choice for control plane applications on router and switch line cards. Additionally, those developers who require support, commercial business terms, enhanced development experience, or customization services can easily migrate to commercial versions of the Mentor Embedded Linux and/or Sourcery CodeBench Professional tools.

Mentor Embedded Software Offerings for AMD Embedded G-Series SoCs and CPUs

Mentor Graphics is providing the following software downloads for the award-winning G-Series SoC and CPU families via its website:http://www.mentor.com/embedded-software/partners/amd

  • Mentor Embedded Linux Lite: A free, unsupported derivation from Mentor Embedded Linux preconfigured for select AMD embedded targets that includes pre-built binary images, or Linux kernel and board support package, a Yocto Project-based build system, and select user space packages.
  • Sourcery CodeBench Lite: A free command-line based development tool chain for embedded C/C++ that includes GNU C and C++ compilers, a GNU assembler and linker, a GNU debugger and C and C++ runtime libraries.

Mentor Embedded Linux Lite software will also be pre-loaded on the AMD G-Series SoC and CPU evaluation boards, allowing embedded developers a positive out-of-the box experience with the ability to rapidly customize and build embedded Linux-based applications.
