New Zero-Drift Op Amps from STMicroelectronics Maximize Choice and Performance in Precision Sensing in Wearable Products

Geneva, June 5, 2014 – STMicroelectronics’ TSZ121 family of zero-drift op amps deliver superior performance in popular packages and small-outline alternatives, offering industry-leading choice, accuracy, and precision for Internet-of-Things (IoT) or wearable-device applications including temperature sensors, wellness and fitness monitors, and automotive controls.

With input-offset voltage of 5µV at 25°C, and temperature stability of 30nV/°C, these chopper-stabilized op amps are ideal for front-end signal conditioning or low-side current measurement. Their outstanding precision guarantees accuracy without trimming, thereby saving component count and manufacturing overhead. Ultra-low temperature drift prevents system-performance degradation at higher temperature without requiring self-calibration, resulting in a better end-user experience.

Very high accuracy and stability, combined with an excellent speed/power consumption ratio, make ST’s new zero-drift op amps ideal choice for sensor and control interfaces in a wide range of battery-powered IoT applications.

The TSZ121TSZ122 and TSZ124 expand ST’s high-precision line-up, which also includes non-switching op amps such as the TSV711 and TSV731, so offering versatile choices for a wide range of system and application requirements. The devices operate from 1.8V to 5.5V, with quiescent current below 40?A at 5V, gain-bandwidth product of 400kHz, and ultra-low input bias current.

The single-channel TSZ121 is pin- and package-compatible with comparable devices from other manufacturers. The dual-channel TSZ122 offers popular MiniSO-8 and SO-8 packages plus the option of a miniature 2mm x 2mm DFN8. By also offering the TSZ124 quad op amp in TSSOP-14 and 3mm x 3mm QFN16, this family provides the industry’s broadest choice of zero-drift op amps.

The TSZ121 family is in mass production now, priced from $0.95 for the TSZ121 in SC70-5 or SOT-25L package for orders of 1,000 pieces. Corresponding prices for dual TSZ122 and quad TSZ124 versions start from $1.24 and $1.62 respectively. Pricing for other package options is available on request.

USB Power Delivery: Power for Portable (and Other) Products
Sponsored by Mouser Electronics and Bel
USB Type C power delivery was created to standardize medium and higher levels of power delivery but it also can support negotiations for multiple output voltage levels and is backward compatible with previous versions of USB. In this episode of Chalk Talk, Amelia Dalton and Bruce Rose from Bel/CUI Inc. explore the benefits of USB Type C power delivery, the specific communications protocol of USB Type C power delivery, and examine why USB Type C power supplies and connectors are the way of the future for consumer electronics.
