Semtech Expands TransClamp® Platform with TClamp1202P 12V, High-Surge Transient Protection Array for Safeguarding Industrial and Telecom Applications

CAMARILLO, Calif., April 30, 2014 — Semtech Corp. (Nasdaq: SMTC), a leading supplier of analog and mixed-signal semiconductors, today announced theTClamp1202P, the smallest low-cap, high-surge, 12V (Vrwm) transient voltage protection array in its class. The TClamp1202P offers an impressive 100A (8×20µs waveform) of surge immunity in an ultra-small 2mm x 2mm package.

The TClamp1202P can be used in a wide range of industrial and telecommunications applications for safeguarding sensitive communications transceivers from electrostatic discharge (ESD), electrical fast transients (EFT), cable discharge and lightning surge transients.

The two-line TClamp1202P delivers optimal transient protection, featuring a very low clamping voltage and a line-to-line capacitance of less than 12pF. The part’s robust (100A, tp=8/20?s) surge rating for high-surge lightning protection meets the industry’s most stringent telecommunications and industrial surge requirements.  Additionally, the flow-through layout of the part enhances signal quality and design flexibility.  These benefits make the TClamp1202P ideal for safeguarding the many RS-485 interfaces deployed in telecom and industrial applications such as wireless base stations and digital surveillance cameras.

Semtech’s TransClamp® platform is highly differentiated in offering high surge immunity in very small packages.  The high surge, low capacitance advantages are achieved with Semtech’s industry leading process technology, which delivers high surge immunity and industry leading clamping voltage with significant reductions in leakage current and capacitance.

“With increased deployment of RS-485 interfaces into outdoor and high-surge environments, high-surge, low-clamping transient voltage protection is critical. We have already seen very good adoption of this part from key market leaders,” said Rick Hansen, Product Marketing Director for Semtech’s Protection Products.  “The TClamp1202P offers some unique advantages to safeguarding RS-485-based systems from the harsh overvoltage threats common on these ports.”

Key Features of the TClamp1202P

  • Transient protection for high-speed data lines to: IEC 61000-4-2 (ESD) ±30kV (air), ±30kV (contact); IEC 61000-4-4 (EFT) 40A (5/50ns); IEC 61000-4-5 (lightning) 100A (8/20?s)
  • 12V working voltage protection
  • High surge capability: 100A (tp=8/20?s)
  • Protects two I/O lines
  • Low capacitance (<12pF line-to-line)
  • Ultra-small 2mm x 2mm package
  • Pb-free and RoHS/WEEE compliant
